Modern Tailored Suit

We were very lucky to have Sohora Muhammad teach us this module on tailored jackets. She worked at Savile Row for a number of years before she moved up north to teach at CCAD. Our given topic was,'The Dandy'. From this we could choose historical or modern tailored styles for men or women.

As I had already made a fitted jacket for a lady in my Victorian leisurewear project I decided to challenge myself to make a man's tailored jacket. My chosen dandy that I used as inspiration was Daniel Craig as 007 James Bond. I asked my brother if he wouldn't mind being my model and I think his exact words were... "free suit? Yus!"

I learned so much in this topic. We learned a huge range of techniques including; making shoulder pads, sleeve rolls, pad stitching, bar tacks, making lapels and collars, hand- sewn buttonholes, weft pockets and lots more...

It was a brilliant opportunity and now all I want to do is make another. Maybe I should make him some trousers first. Sohora seemed pretty impressed that it was my first jacket...felt pretty proud!
